“Get your ears around some wonderful Americana” BBC Introducing
“Will's piano-based songs and Weasel's superb drumming on a stripped-down kit make a heady and hypnotic sound that's both highly original and hugely accessible” Grapevine for Music
“Refreshing, fascinating and exciting. Perhaps this is what Tom O’Dell fronting Wilco would sound like if produced by Roni Size? Regardless of how chaotic this sounds, it works. I mean it really works.” The Ocelot Magazine
“The music of Will Lawton and Weasel Howlett fearlessly dips its foot pedals into folk, jazz, drum and bass and a smattering of indie, all served up with intelligent piano playing, intricate drum patterns and a husky voice. Beautifully arranged music.” Dancing about Architecture
Will Lawton & Weasel Howlett started collaborating in 2015. They have a hypnotic and heady sound which revolves around Will’s piano-based songs being brought alive by the stripped back energy of Weasel’s drumming.
In January 2018 the pair released their self-financed debut album ‘Fossils of the Mind’ on double vinyl and CD following a successful Kickstarter campaign. The album was recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire, England and has received excellent critical acclaim. The album is the culmination of Will's song-writing experience and Weasel's rhythmic influence and marks the maturation of a compelling and talented duo who bring inspiration from opposing genres of music to create something entirely their own.
Will is a prolific singer/song-writer who has documented his life through his music with various bands and an enviable discography. Significant song writing influences include Ray LaMontagne, Eddie Vedder, Nick Drake and Ben Harper. The pair cite music influences ranging from grunge to death metal to progressive rock and jazz including bands such as Tool, Go Go Penguin and Portico Quartet.
For the last 18 months, the duo have become a trio, enlisting the musicianship of Buddy Fonzarelli on upright bass. The band have recently started a new phase of recording in the library at Abbey House in Malmesbury and also work with Ami Kaelyn (guitar and vocals) and Harki Popli (tabla).
The band are very active throughout 2019 playing various festivals, arts centres and music venues.
Will & Weasel are signed to Supermarine Music.
